Everything We Know About Ant-Man 3 — Paul Rudd, Release Date, Plot

Ant-Man 3, officially titled Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, is just a month away at this point. The highly anticipated film stars Paul Rudd as the titular Ant-Man, a superhero known for his genius-level intellect and size-shifting powers. Here is everything we know about this upcoming MCU installment.

When is Ant-Man 3 Coming Out?

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is coming on February 17, 2023.

The release date has caused a bit of confusion with Marvel fans since it’s gone through some odd changes. The original release date was February 17, 2023 but it was then pushed back to July 2023. The movie was then moved back to its original release date of February 17.

The shaky release is most likely due to the filming complications. There were a lot of “circumstances and logistics” that made the shoot quite difficult, according to Evangeline Lilly.

Who Will Star in Ant-Man 3?

Paul Rudd is back as Ant-Man (Scott Lang), of course! He will be joined by Lilly, who plays The Wasp (Hope van Dyne). This is exciting news for fans of the first Ant-Man and The Wasp film in 2018, where both actors had incredible chemistry.

But there will be new faces as well. Ant-Man’s daughter, Cassie Lang, is back. But the role is going to a new actress, Kathryn Newton. It’s unclear what led to the change, but comic books fans are excited to see the character’s development since Newton teased that she will “do her best” to be the “best superhero of all time,” a nod to the daughter becoming a superhero herself in the comics.

Jonathan Majors is also appearing in Ant-Man 3 as Kang the Conqueror. His involvement was first rumored back in 2020 but it has since been confirmed that Majors will be He Who Remains.

Another actor to keep an eye out for is Bill Murray, who will be playing a villain.

Is Paul Rudd Jewish?

A lot of people were initially surprised to learn that Paul Rudd was Jewish. It’s not something the actor has often talked about, which has led to some entertaining skits on the subject.

Paul Rudd is not religious, but his parents are Jewish immigrants who moved to London from Belarus, Poland and Russia. He went to synagogue as a kid and participated in a lot of the practices and traditions growing up. This includes having a Bar Mitzvah. While attending acting school, Rudd had a side job as a Bar and Bat Mitzvah DJ.

“I always felt a little bit like an outsider not only because I was Jewish, but because my parents are European,” Rudd said in an interview about growing up in the Bible Belt.  “I didn’t go to a school where there were a bunch of Jewish kids, and I realized growing up that my way of not getting beaten up was to try and make people laugh — and to deal with any kind of trauma was to make people laugh.”

As an actor, Rudd has played multiple Jewish characters in movies and is now married to a Jewish woman. While he isn’t religious, Rudd is ethnically and culturally Jewish, and has been proud to mention it in multiple interviews.

What is Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania About?

Marvel shared the official synopsis for the film shortly after Comic-Con, stating that it’s about Ant-Man and The Wasp continuing their adventure. Together with her parents, the family explores the Quantum Realm, discovering “strange new creatures” and testing boundaries of space and time.

In the trailer, Cassie uses new technology to send a signal to the Quantum Realm. Before she can turn it off, the family is pulled in. The visually striking world looks quite futuristic, a blend of space and sea. It’s described in the trailer as a “secret universe” beneath our own. The cryptic teaser also hints at The Wasp’s mother having a secret and the universe having a lot of threats, both in the form of monsters and insidious forces.

While Ant-Man and The Wasp will continue to be the leads, Cassie will be playing a bigger role in the third installment. It’s also hinted that MODOK will make an appearance.
